2019 Summer Internships

Tall Ships Maine is seeking interns for the summer of 2019 to help provide sailing opportunities for youth. These internships provide hands-on experience for college students preparing themselves for careers in education, non-profit management, sail training and technology.

Events Coordinator

Tall Ships Maine organizes events every summer. Our summer interns--usually college juniors with an interest in tall ships--run these events and derive valuable management and leadership experience and have lots of fun here in Portland, a great place to summer. The Events Coordinator will be in charge of Portland SchoonerFest & Regatta (June 21-23, 2019), Tall Ships® Weekend 2019 (date TBD) and other events. Tasks are diverse and engaging - giving you real world experience with everything from CRM databases to schooners. The summer is our busiest time of year and between shoreside events and educational programs at sea, the days are never dull! You will have the chance to sail on a tall ship during your internship.

June 1 to Aug. 15, 2019--40 hours per week. Office in Portland. Summer stipend: $1,500. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis. If you don't receive a reply within 7 days, please resubmit.

Sail Training Program Coordinator

Tall Ships Maine seeks to send 200 students to sea for 5 day, 4 night sailing adventures in 2019. We work with several tall ships, especially Schooner Harvey Gamage. The Sail Training Coordinator will coordinate our programs during the course of the summer. The successful applicant will have teaching experience and experience at sea and can expect to sail on a tall ship on at least two one-week voyages.

May 15 thru July 15, 2019 and/or July 15 thru September 15. 40 hours per week. Alternating weeks on board ship and in the home office in Portland. Summer stipend: $1,500. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis. If you don't receive a reply within 7 days, please resubmit.

Sailing Instructor

Tall Ships Maine seeks a sailing instructor to live and work at Camp Hinds in Raymond, ME teaching sailing to 1,200 Scouts over the summer of 2019. In 2019, the sailing program will run on Panther Pond in Force 5s, Lasers and Sunfish. The Sail Training Educator will coordinate this new, expanded program while receiving room and board at Camp Hinds. The successful applicant will have their US Sailing Level I certification, teaching experience, basic boat repair skills and sailing instructional experience. Weekends off.

June 15, to August 15, 2019 Summer stipend $1,500 including room and board. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.

Development Intern

Join us to assist our development efforts over the summer. The successful intern will learn the ropes of non-profit development. You will work in our office in Portland, Maine for a total of 10 weeks at 40 hours per week. With over 8,000 non-profits in Maine alone, the skills you will learn will serve you well in the years ahead. This is a volunteer position. You will have the chance to sail on a tall ship for 2 of your 10 weeks. Housing stipend available.
